Help us to put together the final part of the Marvellous Machines exhibition – a giant automata made from all sorts of weird and wonderful parts! Work in pairs to build sections of the final ensemble. Suitable for ages 6+.

Get Snappy: Create a Camera

Build your own pinhole camera in this hands-on session to capture images of Christchurch Mansion and park. Discover how this early form of photography was used in the past. Suitable for ages 5+.

Discovery Day: Fossils 

Ipswich Museum, Tuesday 6 August, 10.30am-2pm

Explore fascinating animals and plants that lived millions of years ago – hold part of a woolly mammoth, ammonite or even part of a dinosaur. We will have lots of different fossils around the museum for you to look at and touch.

Our Tudor surgeon will be letting you in on the secrets of sawing off limbs, bloodletting with leeches and medieval medicine. Come along, if you’re brave enough! Suitable for ages 6+.

Have you ever wondered what a bird’s feather or a butterfly looks like up close? The animal kingdom is very varied – from massive whales down to tiny insects. We’ll have lots of our natural history collections out for you to explore.
